BREAKING NEWS The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2025 #NobelPeacePrize to Maria Corina Machado for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.

The Nobel Prize X post announces Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado as the 2025 Peace Prize winner for her non-violent efforts to promote democratic rights and a peaceful transition from dictatorship in Venezuela.

Machado, an engineer-turned-activist, founded election-monitoring NGO Súmate in 2002 and led the opposition after her 2023 presidential candidacy was barred, mobilizing evidence of fraud in the disputed 2024 election.

The award highlights retreating global democracy, as noted by the Norwegian Committee, amid polarized reactions on X, including praise for amplifying Venezuelan voices and disappointment from those expecting Donald Trump to win.
